Food and drink

The other night I heard someone comment that no conversation is good enough to interrupt a meal. I can’t remember who said it though, but it seems a fitting thing to mention with food featuring in a number of books (apart from those specifically dealing with eating such as recipe, cook and dietary books).
And along with good food, there’s generally liquid refreshment, so it seemed a good idea to include those here too.
Not all people are able to enjoy a solid meal, as Frank Parker explores in Called to Account – an historical novel around the time of the Irish potato famine.
At the other extreme, some gorge themselves till they are Stuffed – a collection of poetry by Johannes Kerkhoven – with a clever visual poem about crumbs.
Some books contain recipes, such as Judy Johnson’s Alaskan Pioneer Girl and Robbie and Michael Cheadle’s Sir Chocolate series.
