A perfect afternoon with “Imperfect Poets of the 3rd Age”

Sue Parker and John Steele, representing the St Albans u3a Poetry Writing Group whose poetry anthology Imperfect Poets of the Third Age‘ was published by TSL in 2023, were invited to perform some of the poems from the book at an afternoon tea to mark St Albans & District Talking Newspaper‘s 50th birthday celebrations. This followed the recording and broadcast of other poems earlier in the year.
The event took place on 22nd August 2024 at Shenley Cricket Club Radlett with an audience of well over 100, which included the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Annie Brewster JP and other civic leaders together with many local volunteers.
The light and humorous poetry was part of the entertainment during the tea, which also included a couple of bands and a lively a cappella chorus, and by all accounts came over well – not easy when the spoken word has to vie with food for people’s attention!
